Shockwave Therapy
Shockwave therapy is currently available at our Melton clinic. This is a non-invasive treatment that uses acoustic sound waves, not electricity, to stimulate the body’s natural healing response. It is commonly used for chronic plantar fasciitis and Achilles tendonitis, and may also help with bursitis and shin splints.
The sound waves increase blood flow and metabolic activity around the painful area, and may help break down scar tissue. Treatment may feel uncomfortable, but your podiatrist adjusts the intensity throughout, guided by you. Afterwards, mild tingling or aching is common and settles on its own.
Each session takes around 10 to 15 minutes. We recommend reducing activity for around 24 hours afterwards.
Shockwave works best alongside other strategies such as footwear changes, taping or orthotics, and your podiatrist will discuss whether it is suitable for you.
This treatment is usually repeated weekly for up to six sessions, depending on how your symptoms respond.
